✅ Step-by-Step: Easiest Way to Get an NPI
1. Go to the Official NPI Website
Visit the NPPES (National Plan and Provider Enumeration System):
https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov
2. Click on "Create or Manage an Account"
3. Login and Start a New NPI Application
After logging in, click on "Apply for an NPI" and choose the appropriate provider type:
Click Individual
4. Complete the Application Form
You’ll need to provide:
A. Full legal name
B. Mailing and practice addresses
Mailing Address: This is the address where you want to receive mail related to your NPI
Practice Address: This is the physical location where you see clients or provide services.
Note: If you're working remotely or providing in-home services (e.g., as a BCBA), use your main office address or home address (if that's where you coordinate services).
C. SSN or EIN (depending on individual or organization)
Your SSN is printed on your physical Social Security card. A 9-digit number issued by the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA)
D. License information (if applicable)
E. Taxonomy (your specialty or classification)
For BCBA: 103K00000X
For BCaBA: 106E00000X
For BT / RBT: 106S00000X
5. Submit the Application
Review your details and click Submit. Most NPIs are issued within 24 hours (often same day).
6. Confirmation
You’ll receive a confirmation email, and you can also log in to see your NPI number.
